Data Recovery Information
> Hard Drive Recovery
Hard drives are
complex machines with a number of parts,
like the heads, built on a nano-scale. The
internal atmosphere is very sensitive and
tiny particles of dust can cause problems if
they penetrate the case the data platters
are sealed in. This can cause serious
problems and lead to the data platter being
irrecoverably scraped clean. It is important
that the drive isn't opened except by
trained technicians in a clean room to help
prevent this.
Tiny heads are
positioned over the spinning platters and
read/write with pulses of electricity that
rearrange the bits on the platter. As
hard drives continue to increase in
capacity, larger, higher density, and more
platters are used, which increases the
number of mechanical parts and precision
involved that can break or stop working.
A number of situations
might cause the firmware (software
that tells the drive how to read sectors) to
be damaged and repairs to it may be
necessary. Users may accidentally or
intentionally delete files that are
necessary. A software error may corrupt
or delete files. Power failure or
surges can also cause damage and data
loss.

Files and data have
been deleted or corrupted.
-
Virus infection,
software, or system upgrades/updates.
-
The drive is clicking
or screeching.
-
The drive won't
recognize in BIOS.
-
The drive has been
physically damaged.
-
Electrical or
mechanical failure.
